Cork County Council has enacted a “get tough” policy with financial intuitions, owners/developers who have been slow to rectify Ghost Estates. They have started by sending out warning letters to all unsafe site owners.
If the warning letters are ignored Cork County Council has stated that they will issue statutory dangerous structure notices under the dangerous structures legislation. This will give the council the power to move in carry out the required safety works and recoup the money owed.
However there has been improvement in the housing sector in Cork. In 2010 there were 280 unfinished estates this number currently stands at 50.
